Oak Hill Court

Patience is indeed a virtue – if not a necessity – in a whole house remodeling and addition project like this one.  It takes time to get things just right. The final design for this home is quite different from the first design, but it’s normal for a design to evolve – that’s where the patience part (for the homeowner and the Architect) comes in.

One of my favorite parts of this project is the development of the outdoor living spaces. We added a large open porch off the new family room with an attached outdoor kitchen, and a new patio centered on a firepit. With the home’s location on a pond, it’s the perfect outdoor spot. Below is the backyard before the remodeling – quite a change!

But it’s inside where the real changes take place.  The kitchen’s in more or less the same place, but expanded and opened up to a big new family room. The existing small family room was repurposed as the new dining room – much closer and more open to the kitchen – and a sitting area next to the fireplace.

The other big interior overhaul in this project was the owner’s suite. We didn’t change the existing high-ceiling bedroom, but the bath is completely new. The existing closet was absorbed into the new bath, and we added an entire new room to hold the new owner’s closet.

Completing this top-to-bottom redo included upgrading the foyer; the mudroom; and converting the existing dining room into a home office.
