An east-facing hillside in Fairfield County, Ohio was the perfect site for this new custom cottage home. Views of rolling hills, farms, and spectacular sunrises greet the owners every day.

The modest front of this home doesn’t offer clues to the wide open spaces inside.

The front porch is just big enough for two – through the windows you get a hint of the views beyond.

Once inside, the soaring ceiling of the family room, and the bank of windows at the back, show you what this custom cottage home is all about. Below, the family room flows into the dining area and kitchen.

Above – the owners wanted plenty of windows in the kitchen, for sunlight, for views, but also to keep an eye on grandchildren out by the pool.

A stair is tucked in behind the fireplace. Behind the camera in this photo is a short hall leading to the owner’s bedroom suite and a home office.

Below – the lower-level “canning kitchen”, with an adjacent rec room and big doors accessing the backyard patio.

Just down the hall on the lower level is a bunk room for grandkids.
