What’s Next?

My “Knock Knock” blog started almost fourteen years ago. I was looking for a way to engage with homeowners, to connect with people who cared as much about the design and character of homes as I do.

Fourteen years ago, email newsletters were the latest, greatest thing for connecting with people online. Social media existed but wasn’t the internet behemoth it is today.

Fourteen years ago my two kids were in middle school and high school, and we lived in a different house in a much smaller, less hectic version of Dublin, Ohio than the one we live in now.

My first blog post was about damage to your house from winter weather, and, according to my publisher, I’ve added 140 more posts since – not including the terribly-written ones that I later deleted.

That doesn’t sound like a lot, but as my workload has grown, it’s become harder to find time to write blog posts. I need to work on that, because I enjoy writing and enjoy the feedback I get from readers like yourself.

The posts that have proved the most popular on Knock Knock surprised me – they’re ususally about practical things like raising a roof or faux cedar shakes. There’s not as much interest (or at least, as much feedback) on the more rambling, philosophical posts.

I expect to keep writing whenever I have the time – what subjects would you like to hear more about?

Contact me to learn more about the services I offer and how I can help make your new home or remodeling project exciting, valuable and unique.

I have learned so much from reading your blog and I am grateful for all the knowledge you impart. I like the posts from when you were traveling and the various styles of architecture you saw. I also like when you share from the design phase to completion, like you did the round house. One topic I would like to see you cover is downsizing. How do you gain more functional space with less square footage? In my current home, we consistently use 7 of the 13 rooms (laundry, half bath, family room, dinette space, kitchen, master bedroom, and master bath). We don’t consistently use the dining room, living room, 3 bedrooms and full bath. I would love to move to a ranch where I used the space better but have no idea how to go about it or what to look for. Thanks for educating me and letting me dream through you for so many years.
